The Log and Timber Homes Council Celebrates 7th Annual Log Homes Month

From the simple and utilitarian log cabins of frontier lore to 21st century luxury living, log homes have been part of the American landscape for hundreds of years. Now entering its 41st year of operation, the Log and Timber Homes Council strives to celebrate and protect log home living for generations to come.

“Council members are true stewards of the log and timber home industry,” says Robert Wrightman, chief executive officer of True North Log Homes and the 2018 chairman of the Log and Timber Homes Council, part of the National Association of Home Builders. “Whether conducting consumer education initiatives or ensuring log homes are protected in today’s building codes, member-companies are at the forefront of our industry.”

Representing North American log and timber home manufacturers, members voluntarily pledge to:

  • Abide by a strict code of ethics
  • Grade their logs and timbers by third party agencies to ensure quality
  • Supply detailed construction manuals to ensure correct construction techniques
  • Sponsor scientific studies that advance log-building technologies
  • Provide free information to help consumers make smart choices.

You can help the council celebrate everything log homes this summer during National Log Home Open House Month. Introduced in July 2012 by now-retired Wisconsin Congressman Reid Ribble, the Congressional Record recognizes the log home industry, as well as the men and women vital to this special sect of housing. Since its inception, members of the Log and Timber Homes Council have promoted log home ownership during National Log Home Open House Month by hosting factory tours, log raising demonstrations and additional events geared toward buyers.

“Council members always rally behind Log Homes Open House Month,” says Rob. “It’s a great opportunity to educate the public about modern log home manufacturing and living.”
