Our handcrafted log homes are meticulously crafted in the Scandinavian full-scribe tradition. We offer an industry unique surface finish call “Latewood.” where we use a water process to carefully remove the bark. This preserves the natural beauty of each and every log we use to craft your home. Another benefit to the “Latewood” finish is its satiny smooth appearance and feel. In conjunction with our use of cedar flares and artistic inclination we are perfect for the discerning buyer who wants a one-of-a-kind handcrafted log home.
As for our milled log packages, what sets us apart from other manufacturers is our Pre-Stacked concept We pre-assemble the log walls and log floor joists at our site to insure accuracy and completeness, so there is never the worry that logs may be missing or miscut. Other manufacturers of milled log packages rely on you or your building contractor to assemble the package for the first time. They typically ship extra material to account of any problems that may arise, and count on you or your builder to be able to cut a blank log to fit. We at Summit Handcrafted Log Homes feel that this is not the best way to achieve the professional results our clients demand. Pre-Stacking also allows us to provide window and door openings cut to finished sizes including settling allowances, and we bevel cut the log ends making trim detailing easy and aesthetically appealing.
Windows are even given a drip slope to maintain weather tightness. In addition, all electrical chases are drilled and the electrical boxes mortised and a flattened area is created for the face plates to fit flush to the log wall. If requested by the client log gable ends can be Pre-Stacked with roof slopes and window openings cut according to plan specifications. The bottom line is we are the expert log crafters and feel deeply that the intricate log work should be done by us and not an inexperienced or a not so experienced log builder.
Summit’s designers are internationally recognized for their innovative and awarding winning designs. The house plans we create are produce using state-of –the-art 3-D modeling software. This powerful design tool enables our clients to fully visualize all elements of their home before it is ever built.
