Towering pecan trees frame the Cioffi home, set 350 feet back off a quiet road. For comfort and ease, the front steps, like the interior staircases, were specially designed deep and short with a minimum rise.

The Cioffis enjoy the morning sun with a cup of coffee on the back porch. Along with deck chairs and rockers are two ergonomically designed hanging "Air Chairs,"—their favorites.

inside the log home
The Cioffis use a mixture of chandelier and track lighting. Light fixtures from the vaulted ceilings provide ambient lighting while track lighting is task-oriented. "It's a mix you seldom see but in log homes, it goes well together," says Joseph.

large custom kitchen
In the kitchen, granite tops a 4-by-8-foot island, complemented by ceramic tile on the remaining countertops. Stainless steel appliances include a Maytag refrigerator, KitchenAid dishwasher and double oven and a Thermador stove. The cabinets are custom-built from BK Cypress. Joseph said the couple opted for open shelving, "fitting the open design of the house very nicely."

family dining room
The Cioffi home is the gathering spot for a large extended family of children, grandchildren and in-laws scattered throughout the state. "There's always something going on," Joseph says. And with the large dining table and open floor plan, their log home is able to accommodate everyone.

For ten years, the Cioffis owned a needlework shop and Patricia still enjoys knitting and crocheting in the living room. The home not only form-fits the Cioffis' lives but their lifestyle. "We're not formal people," Joseph says. "There's a welcoming feeling when you walk into log home. It's warm and all natural."

open master bed room
In modifying their floor plan, the Cioffis turned two second-story bedrooms into one master suite and built a half-wall to create an open feeling. The etched octagon window over the bed is a trademark of BK Cypress, a blue heron. Joseph framed it himself.

loft and game room
The second-story loft has become a multipurpose room for the Cioffis. Once used as a home office, it's now a favorite place for the grandchildren to "get away from the adults," says homeowner Joseph Cioffi.

music room in the log home
According to Joseph, Patricia spent so much time looking for the right piano "she played until her fingers were worn down. Then she played the Chickering piano and said, 'This is it.'" BK Cypress President Jim Keeton said the "acoustics in log home are very good. Musicians love it."
