These all sound like great ideas. What this checklist can help you do is determine which spaces are priorities so that you can plan accordingly. You can then take these ideas to an architect or log producer, and they can help come up with the perfect plan for you based on your needs.

From MARTIN LOG HOMES, LLC.

I have developed the solution to a lot of the issues your readers are describing. I have been designing, packaging, regionally building, consulting on log home projects since 1993.
The checklist is a good start, but, working with a designer is better next step. Most people don't realize how much they actually have to pay when dealing with 3 seperate entities, the manufacturer, the dealer and the builder. 3 levels of overhead and profit can add up quickly. At MARTIN LOG HOMES, LLC one-stop-shopping is the key to happy homeowners. My clients get to deal with one entity from start to finish. I believe that the log home industry has a serious shortage of skilled and knowledgable hands-on suppliers of turnkey project capability at reaListic pricing and WAY TOO MANY "MANUFACTURERS" and "DEALERS OF MANUFACTURERS". I read just a few of the comments here and they are identical to the concerns of all the clients I've built for. Yet, taking care of these types of issues is a specialty my system handles every day. Turnkey, up front pricing is possible if there is only one buyer and one designer/builder as I do that on every project.
