| Reduce Your Ecological Footprint Green Building Tips John Boys of Nicola LogWorks has a strict policy when it comes to building log homes for his clients—if the house they want is too big, he won’t build it. Although that may sound like business suicide, John—who has been building log homes for 25 years—says he does this for the benefit of both the client and the environment. “Anytime you build a 15,000-square-foot house that two, three or four people are going to inhabit, I don’t care how many new technologies you use, how much insulation you put on the roof and how carefully you fit the building, you’re creating a huge footprint on our environment,” he says. So think about what you really need. Although it may seem comfortable to live in a more spacious home, you may actually waste money on heating and cooling extra space that may never be used.
