Pacific Log Homes Ltd. specializes in custom-designed handcrafted log homes and commercial buildings, having shipped well more than 1,000 unique packages throughout Canada, the United States and Asia since its founding in 1976.
Superior quality, large-diameter full-length logs are air dried and then hand peeled. Primarily spruce or pine logs are used, however, cedar and fir also are available. Each full-length log is scribed and cut to fit the contours of the log below it in the wall (there are no butt joints in the wall logs). A tight fitting wedge notch is used at the corners to keep the logs tight, during and after settling. Fiberglass insulation is placed into the lateral grooves.
A Pacific log home is fully adjusted for settling. This includes the use of a through-bolt with tension spring system to keep the walls tight while settling, the use of key-ways and splines for window and door frames and screw-jack adjustments for interior partition walls and vertical posts. Grooves in the walls accept interior finishing materials. Roof overhangs are usually 2 feet along the sides and 4 feet or greater at the gable ends. Exposed round and/or squared floor joists and ceiling beams are popular features in Pacific’s homes.
Construction takes approximately six to eight weeks for a log shell to be pre-built at Pacific Log Homes‘ 30-acre site. Virtually all of the work needed to be done on the logs is done in our yard by skilled craftsmen, such as cutting openings, preparing for trim, grooving for interior partitions and decorative finishing of the log tails. The logs are then numbered, disassembled and transported to the customer’s site for supervised reassembly.
