In their log home, one couple finds an escape from the concrete jungle—and an ideal place to pursue their outdoor passions.
For Lori Dionne and her husband, building a log home was about more than just the structure. It was about everything around it—namely, the woods surrounding the conservation community of Ocmulgee Banks in central Georgia, where the couple uses their log home as a base for their favorite outdoor activities: hunting and fishing. As lifelong residents of South Florida, the Dionnes take every opportunity they can to get away from the concrete, stucco and drywall of their home state to travel to their 2,600-square-foot home in the woods. Despite logging nearly eight hours on the road each way, they never pass up a chance to get back to nature.Log homes are a common sight at Ocmulgee Banks, so the Dionnes didn't have any trouble tracking down Southland Log Homes to build their dream house. The company bridged the distance between the couple's permanent residence and the construction site by keeping them updated on the home's progress every step of the way. And every time they went to visit their home as it was being built, the Dionnes found a new treat waiting for them—making the drive to the house that much longer as they experienced jitters akin to kids on Christmas Eve.
"It was like opening a present every day when we showed up," says Lori. "We came around the corner and couldn't wait to see the difference. It was so neat to finally pull up and see a house there."
Once the house was complete, the Dionnes were able to move in quickly, thanks to some advance planning—they were so excited about the prospect of their log home that they decorated their Florida residence in rustic furniture and simply moved it all to Georgia.
"Our home is a dream come true," she says. "I remember drawing pictures as a child of a log cabin with a green roof. I never could have imagined that we would actually build and own the home I pictured in those drawings."

I have been fortunate enough to have stayed in the "Log Gem in GA" and it's even more gorgeous in person. The tranquility of the outdoors is not only breathtaking but indescribable. This log cabin is worth featuring in a log home magazine - others will enjoy it. Thank you for sharing this!
