This integrated process means better quality at affordable prices.
White pine logs are harvested during the winter when the sap is down, minimizing blue stain fungi growth. The logs are cut into 6-by-8-inch cants, the center of which is heartwood, the most decay-resistant part of the log that also acts as a deterrent for through-checking. The cants are gently air dried for at least six months to reduce moisture content. Just prior to delivery to the customer’s building site, the cants are milled into 7 1/2-inch-wide by 5 1/2-inch-high logs with double tongue-and-groove interlocking surfaces. These logs are then graded by the Timber Products Inspection system.
Mountaineer Log and Siding Company’s unique and exclusive Weather Lok system was developed to prevent air and water infiltration around windows and doors. This system, in combination with other Mountaineer sealing features, makes the finished home one of the most energy-efficient in the industry.
The corner systems shown above provide customers with many different appearance options. They range from the rustic overlapping butt-and-pass look to a more contemporary smooth and flat corner. Four different log profiles provide customers with even greater flexibility while designing their dream home.
Mountaineer Log and Siding Company has 36 standard models, which are illustrated in the planning guide. Most customers choose to customize a standard model or provide their own ideas for a true custom design. Mountaineer’s design department can convert those ideas into plans that meet local codes and make happy customers. A complete standard package including windows, doors, floor system, roof and interior studding starts at slightly more than $20,000.
