Davis Frame Company’s Principal Architect Releases New Book

Claremont, NH: Davis Frame Company, manufacturer of traditional timber frame home and commercial packages, is pleased to announce the release of TIMBER FRAMES: Designing Your Custom Home by its principal architect, Jeremy K. Bonin, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP.

“TIMBER FRAMES: Designing Your Custom Home” is an instructional tool to help homeowners from the original visioning stages of designing a timber frame home through the creation of construction drawings. The book’s major focus is to introduce the timber frame design process in its entirety to those unfamiliar with this unique building system. The book explains and details the phases of the design process, bringing the reader through site regulations, building and energy systems, heating and cooling applications, as well as the importance of windows and doors. Included is an Outline Planning Tool to help start the design process and guiding questions to help determine what aspects are most important to whom and why. This creates the design framework for the custom timber frame home taking shape.

Bonin introduces and discusses the different timber framing systems available and how to determine which system best fits your evolving vision. As a result of his special interest in environmentally sustainable design practices, energy efficient construction, and environmentally sound material selections, Bonin discusses at length the Structural Insulated Panel enclosure system (SIPs) and their benefits. Design and green tips appear throughout the book, and a helpful glossary defines industry terms. Throughout the book are suggestions and tricks for making good design decisions.
