| I’ll let you in on little secret: I’m a bit obsessive when it comes to finding deals. If bargain hunting were an Olympic sport, I’m quite confident that I’d handily medal in gold. But when you’re on a budget, even spending an Andrew Jackson on home decor can be a stretch. So, at home, my own decor tends to be an amalgamation of clearance finds and simple, DIY projects. And fear not if you’re not handy with a glue gun—I’m not either. (And I have the fingertip burns to prove it.) In the coming months, I’ll be bringing you some easy-to-re-create home decor projects that even a craft novice like me can handle. The best part? All of the supplies cost less than $20. Now if only the Olympic committee returned my phone calls... |

Leah, I am going to be building a cabin in a couple of years. I got my land, now waiting for retirement. I am buying some things as I wait and I am looking for an apothecary cabinet. I cannont find anything. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

Well, I have a few follow-up questions for you. Are you looking for an antique apothecary cabinet? Or is vintage-looking fine? Reproduction pieces or those with an antique, rubbed finish will be considerably less than a genuine antique piece.
What purpose will it serve? There are many new cabinets that act as CD and DVD holders that could work for you. How big do you want it? What finish do you want?
And, finally, are you oppsed to shopping online? For furniture, shipping costs can add up. But after the start of the new year, many retailers discount merchandise and offer free shipping specials, so post-holidays might be a good time to look.
E-mail me at lkerkman@homebuyerpubs.com for more specific suggestions. Happy hunting!

Leah, we just acquired lots of old pallets. The wood is aged and could make for great decorations in our cabin, possibly even a cabinet. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help!
