Have you ever considered an Oak log home? Our forefathers preferred oak because they knew of oaks’ natural durability, strength, and insect resistance. The advantages of using oak have not changed throughout the years. Oak log homes still provide those important benefits as well as giving unsurpassed beauty from the wood.
Established in 1977, Gastineau is a leader in the industry, offering one of the best-engineered and most complete packages on the market. Gastineau’s trademarked “SmartLog” system is based on 8-inch-by-6-inch, 6-inch-by-8-inch, and 8-inch-by-8-inch tongue-and-grooved logs with fasteners and custom seals especially designed as a part of the Smart Log system. A chinked 8-inch-by-8-inch oak log with dovetail corners is also available as a standard profile. Other corners available include butt and pass, saddle notched, and Swedish cope systems. All end joints and openings are locked with a sophisticated spline system. Door and window jambs arrive at the job site precut for the required rough openings.
Logs are kiln dried in solar forced air kilns and graded using the Log Homes Council Grading program. The state-of-the-art kiln drying process developed by Gastineau Log Homes minimizes checking and splitting of the logs that is common in traditional kilns and is very environmentally friendly as it does not use any fossil fuels.
Smart Match log siding is provided to match each log profile and is used over conventional framing for gables and dormers. ThermaLog, an 8-inch insulated half-log siding system, uses a 3-inch-by-8-inch tongue-and-grooved exterior log siding on a 2-inch-by-6-inch frame wall.
In addition to design services for standard and custom plans, Gastineau offers construction assistance for owner-builders and professional builders. Packages include a comprehensive construction manual and a construction seminar. Plus, a Gastineau service representative will visit the home on two different occasions to ensure customer satisfaction. A Quality Assurance Visit and a Customer Satisfaction Visit by a GLH construction experts is included will all full log kits. Some Gastineau dealers also provide turnkey construction services, and the company maintains a list of independent builders experienced in erecting Gastineau packages.
Gastineau also manufactures a full log park model, called a Log Cabin 2 Go. These units are 400 square feet plus lofts and porches. They are made of 5-inch thick oak logs with dovetailed corners and arrive at your site complete with kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and array of other amenities. It is truly a completed log cabin that can be pulled to your job site ready to enjoy.
Dealer/builder opportunities are available nationwide. Gastineau has shipped over 5,000 homes to every state in the nation and 10 countries since 1977.
