Frontier Log Homes is a custom builder. We specialize in working with you to arrive at the final plan best suited to your needs. Frontier Homes works year round handcrafting log structures.
We are a family-owned-and-operated company with a combined building experience of 50 years. The very finest in quality control possible is accomplished because the three owners have direct hands-on building and supervision of the crews each day.
Your Frontier Log Homes home will begin with dry, standing dead, high-elevation pine logs that have a minimum average diameter of 10 inches. Larger logs are available upon request. We use only undimensioned and non-milled logs from which the bark has been hand peeled by use of the old-fashioned drawknife. This method retains and enhances the natural grain and beauty of the wood.
Each is selected for use on the basis of uniform size and straightness. Because the logs are seasoned and dry, the problem of shrinkage is eliminated. We also believe that our system of allowing for settling is one of the best methods.
After selection and peeling, each log is then hand scribed and carefully notched to fit the log below it, using either the Scandinavian full-scribe method or the saddle-notched chink style. There are no mid-wall splices. The new acrylic chinking products on the market today allow for the aesthetically pleasing look of yesteryear coupled with the durability of modern technology.
