The 11th Annual Floor Plan Design Contest was no doubt a close one, with a wide variety from which to choose. These five home designs just barely missed the cut. Our expert panel of judges including Scott Bickford of R.S. Bickford and Company (bick.com), Dan Farmer of Michael Brady Inc. (michaelbradyinc.com), David Linner of David Linner Architects (linnerarchitects.com) and Mira Jean Steinbrecher of Jean Steinbrecher Architects (jeansteinbrecher.com) tell us why they love them.

"The Snowflake" — 1,267 sq. ft. RCM Cad Design, 604-850 6723, loghomedesign.ca Scott: "I love the creativity of this plan. The form really works well for a property with views on all sides. It is a great example of 'four-sided architecture.' The trilobal form not only uses each symmetrical yet unique wing well, but the junction between each of those wings as well." |

"Sebec" — 1,588 sq. ft. Katahdin Log Homes, 800-845-4533, katahdincedarloghomes.com David: "This plan follows a familiar arrangement of rooms, but does so with interesting offsets of the wings. It has a nice entry from the side of the front porch and the convenient rear entry. I like the way the master bedroom has privacy from the front rooms." |

"Eagle Point" — 1,856 sq. ft. Norse Log Homes, 877-390-3344, norseloghomes.com Dan: "An unusual and elaborate plan, this unit is distinguished by the wraparound deck, the exposed second-floor timber framing and the open log stair. The generously sized bedrooms and large, open loft make this a family-friendly plan." |
