Eco-Friendly Kitchen Accessories for Rustic Homes
Bright, automated and eco-friendly kitchenware that doesn't break the bank is the way to go in 2009. Here are a few of our favorite gadgets. 1. To commemorate its 90th anniversary, this summer KitchenAid will release a new stand mixer—the product that gave this company its start in food appliances—in candy-apple red to brighten up the heavy-hitting tool. The clear glass bowl, complete with measure marks, is a throwback to the original model as well. $399. (800-541-6390; kitchenaid.com) |
2. If your cooking skills don't require a heavy-duty oven, Bob Clements, CMKBD, of Dulles, Virginia-based Bath and Kitchen recommends upgrading to a convection oven. "It does a lot that a range does, but it doesn't take up a lot of space," he notes. We like the Breville The Smart Oven because of its suggested temperature Element IQ feature, as well as nine preset cooking options, to make cooking that much simpler. $250. 3. CuisinArt's recently released Rice Plus Multi-Cooker with Fuzzy Logic Technology takes the guessing game out of preparing your favorite grain. With a built-in "brain," it automatically adjusts cooking operations to create perfect, moist rice every time. A customizable touch pad for various types of rice also is featured. $149. 4. Although you may be unable to afford to fully customize your kitchen, you can still enjoy customizable toasting options with DeLonghi's new Adjustable Toaster. With two temperature settings for warming or toasting, the single sleeve can be lengthened fit a larger piece of bread or widened it to fit an entire panini sandwich. Available May 2009. $130. 5. In today's technology-driven world, even the wine openers are electric. Enter Waring's new Professional Cordless Wine Opener, which includes a specially stored foil cutter and can open 80 bottles on a single full charge. Its rubberized handle makes for an easy grip, too. $40. (800-492-7464, waringproducts.com) |

I love my all white Kitchen Aid mixer that I have had for over twelve years. I have loved it so much that I also have two cobalt blue ones as well. I have been a professional baker and wouldn't have anything else but Kitchen Aid. If my whit one ever gives out this new red one will take its place for sure!
