Universal Forest Products engineers and manufactures a wide range of roof and floor trusses, wall panels, floor joists, engineered and pressure treated lumber, composite decking, fencing and exterior trim products for the manufactured housing, and the site built construction industry. Universal’s team of engineers designs and manufactures these building components to meet the individual needs of its customers, whether for new construction, renovation or expansion. With 97 manufacturing facilities in 85 locations throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, Universal provides customers with quality, efficiency and service.
Double Hinge Plate (DHPâ¢) (Patent Pending) – With this special connector, peak caps can be factory installed as part of a fold down roof trusses and then unfolded at the site. It takes the place of sealed framing and allows manufacturers to create higher-pitched roofs in the plant. The Double Hinge Plate also allows manufacturers to build a more complete home in the factory.
The SideStep⢠Plate – (SSP) (Patent Pending) – A pre-engineered field connection designed specifically for modular homebuilders. This unique connector allows builders to continue installing bottom plates on folding knee wall sets, yet still provides a pre-engineered steel connection between framing members.
It improves the field connection between a folding knee wall and other framing members by eliminating toe nail connections. When the roof is being raised for the final set, the builder swings the folding knee wall into position, and then installs the required number of fasteners. The SideStep⢠Plate also facilitates a speedy review by building inspectors.
Pop-Up Dormers – A folding dormer package that is incorporated into the roof assembly in the factory. Once the home reaches its destination, the dormer section can be quickly raised into an upright position, sheathed and sided. Because the dormer walls, roof and floors are all included as part of a single unit, it reduces roof-framing costs and speeds set time.
Open Joist 2000 – A revolutionary open web, all wood floor truss, engineered for long spans and superior load carrying capabilities. Wide nailing flanges allow for solid fastening of floor sheathing and the open webs allow for easy factory installation of mechanical systems. Open Joist floor trusses are lightweight and easy to handle because no steel connector plates are used. Instead, precision finger joinery and waterproof structural adhesives are used in the assembly to produce stronger, more resilient wood-to-wood connections resulting in a stronger flooring system. Open Joist 2000 trusses are individually tested to more than twice their design load to ensure structural integrity. This is the only product to undergo individual testing before leaving the factory floor.
