Real-Life Stock to Custom Floorplans

The homeowners: Rob and Micah Caldwell, in Tennesseee Their log home company: Barna Log Homes, in Oneida, Tennessee. Their starting point: “The Windwood III” What they changed: The couple flip-flopped the layout of the house to capture the landscape of Reelfoot Lake, which lays just 30 feet beyond the Caldwells’ back deck. They added a prow to the window wall design in the living room and moved the fireplace to the side wall so their water views remained unobstructed. The couple desired a spiral staircase to the second floor, which freed up some additional space for the master suite. Because the Caldwells added an attached garage with a large bedroom on its second story, they were able to devote more area to the open loft on the upper level. Their take: Micah says the design inspiration for the home stemmed from its location on Reelfoot Lake. And one of the selling points of the Windwood III is that you can “easily alter the interior,” says Nancy Lavely, a local representative for Barna who worked with the Caldwells. So the couple’s changes were easily incorporated into the layout successfully. “The lodge is really a family gathering place,” Micah says.
