Thanks again for entering. Donna Peak Editor Log Home Design |
Log Home Design magazine is proud to announce the start of the 3rd Annual Log Home Essay Contest, where the editors of Log Home Design will send one lucky winner and three guests to one of the West’s most elite destinations, the all-season Tamarack Resort, located in Idaho’s Long Valley.
The grand prize includes a four-day, three-night stay in one of Tamarack’s lavishly appointed chalets and you’ll also receive an amazing activity package—a $3,500 value. Plus, we’ll give you $400 to enjoy while you’re there!
So, how do you win? Think about what logs home mean to you. Perhaps they remind you of summer vacations spent with family or symbolize your dreams for the future—no matter the meaning, we want to hear about it in the form of a 500-1000 word essay! The editorial staff will choose their favorite essay based on content, clarity, organization and originality. We'll publish the winning entry in the December 2008 issue. Two runners-up will also be featured in the magazine and will receive their choice of a Log Home Lifestyle T-shirt or coffee mug.
So, what do I get if I'm the grand prize winner?
An ever-expanding mountain oasis, Tamarack is truly an outdoor enthusiast’s dream getaway. Depending on which season you decide to visit, you’ll have the option of hitting the slopes, carving turns in pristine powder and cruising summit ridges via snowmobile; or teeing off at award-winning Osprey Meadows—named Best New Course in its category by Golf Digest—and flying through the treetops on the region’s only Zipline Tour.
You and your guests will be put up in a private chalet, tucked amongst towering trees in the shadow of Tamarack’s world-class ski and snowboard mountain. Each chalet has been outfitted with the highest quality in furnishings and amenities, including lake views, stone fireplaces and private hot tubs. Plus, Tamarack will throw in round-trip shuttle transportation from the Boise International Airport.

Its the look, beauty, and smell of it. I got hooked about 4 yrs ago visiting a relative in Ohio that has one. Since then I have collected brochures and have magazine subscriptions of log homes. Even started a scrapbook to design the perfect one.

Ever since I can remember, I have dreamed of owning a log cabin home. This is my dream, and even though I am 64, I hope to own one someday. To stay in one for a vacation would be just awesome.
I remember playing with the grandkids and building one out of Lincoln logs. Dreaming that someday, someday......maybe yet? Who knows, maybe someday my dream will come true. In the meantime, I still have my dream.

I've always been hooked on log cabins, would truly like to stay in this one!

This is a beautiful house in a beautiful location. I would love to have my family reunion there.
By ml wright on Apr 01, 2008
a log cabin reminds me of Mountains, water, relaxation and fishing in small mountain streams for brook trout!!!
By ada Belovics on Apr 01, 2008
this is beutiful place and i think would make lovely vacation for the family. It looks so peaceful and relaxingand fun!!!
By TLG on Apr 02, 2008
Very alluring… However, I am not so sure I would want to win this prize, mainly for the fact it only lasts a few days.
My dream will have to last longer than that, though, more like a lifetime. I cannot afford a log home of my own right now; the only thing I can afford is to dream.
Besides, they would probably have to forcible remove me from that beautiful getaway, because I would never want to leave.
Whoever wins this wonderful opportunity, I hope someday you wake up to more than just a taste of this lovely dream. I pray it is a reality for you. I know it will be for me as well. Good Luck!

Thanks for offering this contest; owning a log home is my dream. I would love to win this getaway. Along with relaxing and decompressing, I could also see what features are most important to me when I finally get to build my own log home (in a mere 7 years hopefully). Staying in this one would be a dream come true - and true dreams should come true!

There is nothing you can compare to Log Home living. If it's a tiny One Room Hunting getaway or, a spacous 3 story Log castle built on a Mountain lake, There is nothing like it.Why? Because its in the Logs! I have always dreamed to have my own log home and, winning this contest would be one step closer for me to my dream!

Nothing better than log home living - I would love to vacation in this wonderful and picturesque setting
By Nick Smith on Apr 20, 2008
Log homes speak to me of relaxation and getting back to the basics; good friends, good food, and getting back to nature. When I am in a log home, or even when I dream of being in one, I experience of sense of being at ease and centered on what is important in life. Although the setting of the log home clearly enhances the enjoyment of the home, just being in a log home takes me to a more relaxed state even if it is in an urban setting.

How exciting!
By ellenore cronk on May 22, 2008
A home of logs to me is an american home to live in free and in touch with nature and be content with the american way of life . A home made from the land we live in, like our ancesters lived in and were content in. A warm and comfy home when it's cold. A cool and comfy home when it"s hot. A log home to memeans Independence and Security in many ways and makkes me feel proud of what I have.
By Anthony Senna on May 26, 2008
Log homes speak of a winter's day with snow falling gently down on a forest hilltop, while sitting on a porch enjoying a cup of cofffee and taking a moment to truly enjoy what this Earth has to offer each and every creature

This place is AWESOME!!

Owned one but didn't go there much. Now that I'm older, I'd love to retire in the log cabin of my dreams. Had friends in AK that had a beautiful cabin, I'd like one like they have to retire to.

Always wanted to join a Log Home, even if it were for weekend or winter getaways. They are so homey, and peaceful!
Thanks for this great contest.

What has happened to the judging? When will the winners be announced?
By Suzanne on Aug 30, 2008
I'm wondering the same - when will they announce?
By Mary on Sep 11, 2008
Still waiting. The deadline for entries was July 14. The contest rules say the winner would be selected on or about July 18 and that the "potential winner will be notified ... within about five days of drawing." Supposedly this wasn't a "drawing" but was a contest, but that's a different issue. My questions here are: When will the winner be announced? What's the hold-up? Why is no information forthcoming, even when I've e-mailed "the editors." Was this a bogus contest?
